433 MHz Multi-function Active Handheld Reader

Toronto, Canada – GAO RFID Inc. has launched its active handheld RFID reader which is an ideal solution for locating and tracking inventory or other assets. It can manually scan and program individual tags enabling users to selectively identify a particular tag and change its information. It uses dual frequencies: 433 MHz for transmission and 916.5 MHz, 927 MHz or 868 MHz for reception for fast and reliable communication.

This light, palm-sized reader, model 214031, has an optional barcode scanner to transmit information from barcode systems to an RFID system. The RFID reader has a 128 MB SDRAM and 64 MB Flash ROM memories and offers a transmit range of up to 1.5 m and receive range of up to 3 m. It runs under Windows CE and .NET and uses RS232 and USB Host / Client ports for data communication with a host. All communication packets use parity bits and cyclic redundancy checks to ensure data integrity. Tests indicate that the highly rugged active RFID reader works effectively even after being dropped from a height of 1.2 m to a concrete floor. Additionally, the RFID reader is water and dust resistant with an IP40 protection rating.
